The workshop “The Future of Opuntia Ficus-indica in Sidi Ifni” took place on April 16, 2024, in Agadir, Morocco, with 22 participants.
This event brought together local small farmers, agricultural professionals, researchers, and policymakers involved in sustainable agricultural development to discuss the potential and the challenges of cultivating prickly pear in the Sidi Ifni region.
Some of the key goals included assessing the status of small-scale Opuntia agriculture in Morocco, presenting research results on cochineal pest management, micropropagation, hybridization, and outlining future programs focusing on irrigation optimization and new product development from Opuntia ficus-indica.
